When R-Type Dimensions III came out earlier this year, it certainly left some mixed feelings. There was definitely some style to it, but frustration also came from certain aspects of the game – something the team at ININ Games vowed to fix. Well, surprise! They came through, and a major update available starting today is showing how.

“When ININ published its improvement initiative in June, the company issued a public commitment to address community concerns through a series of targeted updates and a strengthened quality assurance process,” it noted. “Three months later, that work is reflected in the product players have in their hands today.”

With the latest patch, we see “a comprehensive overhaul of Advanced Mode boss behavior, further refinements to core gameplay systems, and a range of stability and visual corrections.” Plus there’s a digital artbook, something that will benefit a number of players.

Advanced Mode Boss Overhaul

The most substantial gameplay addition in Patch 3 is a comprehensive rework of Stage 5 and Stage 6 boss behavior in Advanced Mode, designed to more accurately reflect the challenge and pattern design of the original game.

Stage 5 bosses have been returned across shot patterns, movement, and speed. Stage 6’s Mother Bydo has received updates across all phases, including dynamic arm duration that now scales based on player performance, replacing the previous fixed timer.

Digital Artbook – Now Free for All Players

The R-Type Dimensions III digital artbook, previously sold as part of the Ultimate Editions on Steam, is now included in the base game across all platforms at no additional cost. The artbook features artwork and historical context exploring the legacy of the R-Type franchise. The base price of R-Type Dimensions III remains unchanged.

“The past three months have been shaped in no small part by the R-Type community. Players who documented issues, tested builds, participated in the feedback process, and held ININ accountable have directly shaped the game today. That level of engagement – critical, knowledgeable, and consistent – has made a measurable difference in the many improvements.”

R-Type Dimensions III is available now for consoles and PC. Check out our review to get the lowdown on our verdict! (Keep in mind that the review was published before the patches were put in place.)
