The Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Expansion Pass is underway, but its first wave takes a relatively modest approach to expanding the game. Priced as part of the $34.99 pass, Wave 1 focuses on four new prototype weapons inspired by Fire Emblem: Three Houses. While the connection between the two games gives this opening offering some nostalgic appeal, the lack of additional story or maps leaves the first wave feeling limited.

Each of the four weapons draws inspiration from one of the Heroes’ Relics featured in Three Houses. Cai receives a spear modeled after Dimitri’s Areadbhar, Theodora gets a bow inspired by Claude’s Failnaught, and Leda gains an axe based on Edelgard’s Aymr. The fourth weapon takes inspiration from Byleth’s Sword of the Creator. For fans familiar with Three Houses, these references provide a welcome connection between the games, giving the new equipment some added significance beyond its practical use in battle.

However, the scope of this first wave is worth considering before investing in the Expansion Pass. There are no new maps, story chapters, or other substantial additions to explore. Instead, the update is entirely focused on equipment, making it a relatively light offering for players hoping to get more out of Fortune’s Weave. The weapons provide some additional options for the heroes, but their appeal will largely depend on how much players value new gear and references to the previous game.

Fortunately, Wave 1 is only the beginning. Wave 2 is scheduled to arrive during the holiday season with new allies, while Wave 3 is planned for 2027 and will introduce new stories, classes, and more. Those additions could give the Expansion Pass considerably more value, but they also make it harder to judge the overall package based on its opening wave alone.

As a standalone content drop, Wave 1 offers a handful of Three Houses-inspired weapons rather than a substantial new adventure, and the bigger content is still ahead. Wave 2 arrives this holiday season with new allies, and Wave 3 follows in 2027 with new stories, classes, and more. With plenty of hours still to come, is this wave enough to justify picking up the pass now, or is it better to wait until all three waves are out?
