Physical game releases are becoming increasingly appealing to collectors, and Retroware has two new offerings for fans of retro-inspired action games. Prison City is now available in physical editions for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, while The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit is getting a pair of NES cartridges for players looking to add something unusual to their collections.

Developed by Programancer, Prison City is available on Switch and PS5 for $39.99. Both editions include the complete game alongside its post-launch content, including additional game modes and remixed stages. Physical extras include a reversible cover and three Crazy Caps.

Inspired by classic NES action games such as Shatterhand and Power Blade, Prison City sends players into eight security zones armed with chakrams and grenades. The side-scrolling action includes challenging boss encounters, hidden upgrades, customization options, Boss Rush and Bomb Mode, all accompanied by a retro-inspired soundtrack from Raddland Studios.

Meanwhile, The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit is taking its throwback approach a step further with actual NES cartridges. Developed by Pittsburgh-based Mega Cat Studios, the action platformer is available in two versions through Retroware’s official online store: the Standard Edition in NES Gray for $69.99 and the Limited Edition in NERD RAGE Red for $79.99. Both editions include an instruction manual featuring artwork by AVGN’s Mike Matei.

Set in the Angry Video Game Nerd universe, The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit unleashes the titular character against pixel-art stages filled with zombies, mechanical skeletons, ghoulish reapers and other enemies. Players can slide beneath platforms, collect power-ups and explore alternate routes before confronting bosses featuring familiar faces from The Nerd’s past.

Both Prison City and The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit physical editions are available now through the official Retroware store.
