So in case you missed the announcement a couple of weeks ago, a new side-scrolling Metroid adventure is on the way. Metroid Ravenous not only brings back the classic feeling of Samus Oran’s adventures, but adds a dangerously delicious new twist – hence the nickname Ravenous.
But now gamers are showing their hungry side as well, but towards the previous 2021 release Metroid Dread. The game has seen a tremendous spike on the eShop charts since Ravenous’ announcement, and now GamesRadar has reported that physical copies are fetching a pretty high price.
“Recent sold eBay listings for Metroid Dread have been creeping higher and higher in price,” the report indicates. “A few lucky buyers have managed to pick the game up for ‘only’ its original retail price, but other listings – especially for new, sealed U.S. copies – have landed well over $100. A handful have gone for as much as $170. And if you’re looking to pick up the Special Edition these days, you can expect to pay even more than that.”
Walmart doesn’t appear to have the physical game in stock, but is offering digital codes. As for Amazon, it has physical copies available, but it’s currently listed for $73 and set to ship within…seven months? GameStop has it listed for a lower $54.99, but, surprise, it’s out of stock; and unless you can score it locally for pick-up, you may have to hunt elsewhere.
The situation is similar to other out-of-print games we’ve seen in the past. One notable example is Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which features three classic Mario adventures in one package. Since its discontinuation, it’s fetched good money on the resale market. And others could likely follow suit as more Switch 2 releases happen.
