Commodore and Antstream, in cooperation with Team17, have announced Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection, a new collection celebrating 35 years of the classic sci-fi horror series. The collection will bring the franchise’s original games and additional content to modern platforms later this year.
Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection will launch in September for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
The collection is designed to preserve the original Alien Breed experience while introducing a range of modern features, visual options, customization settings, and new multiplayer challenges.
Six Classic Alien Breed Campaigns
Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection brings together the games from the franchise’s first era, allowing players to revisit its early isometric and first-person entries in a single collection.
The collection includes six core original campaigns, with players able to take on the games as a lone operator, with locally assigned personnel, or alongside other players through online cooperative play.
The experience has also been updated with modern control options. Twin-stick controls are supported across both the 2D and 3D titles, while the collection retains classic mouse and keyboard support for its first-person entries.
Improved framerates are also intended to provide a smoother experience when playing the 3D titles on modern hardware.
New Modes Expand the Classic Experience
While the collection is built around the original Alien Breed games, Antstream has added several new ways to play.
A new Rush Mode introduces online cooperative gameplay, giving players an opportunity to take on the series’ alien threats together. The collection also features a new Horde Mode focused on survival.
Horde Mode can be played solo or cooperatively, with players facing increasingly dangerous waves of enemies while attempting to survive without saves or continues.
The collection also preserves the couch cooperative modes from the original games, giving players the option to experience the classic multiplayer gameplay locally.
Modern Controls and Customization
Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection also introduces a number of quality-of-life improvements designed to make the classic games easier to play on modern hardware.
Players can customize controls and other gameplay settings across the collection, while tactical save states provide multiple slots for pausing and continuing different runs.
The collection also features updated interface options and modernized combat controls while retaining the feel of the original games.
Players will be able to adjust visual, audio, and gameplay settings through global customization options.
A Retro Visual Suite
The collection includes several options aimed at players who want to recreate the look of classic hardware.
Players can switch between the original 4:3 presentation and a modern 16:9 format. CRT-inspired options are also available, including scanlines and multiple CRT filters designed to replicate the appearance of older displays.
Custom screen bezels can also be enabled to frame the games on modern televisions and monitors.
These options allow players to either experience the games with a more authentic retro presentation or adapt them for modern screens.
Explore the Alien Breed Archives
The collection also includes an interactive archive dedicated to the history of the franchise.
The Vault Interactive Archives allows players to explore concept art, original retail materials, and other pieces of Alien Breed history through an in-universe experience.
The Timeline provides additional historical material, including developer interviews and retrospective videos featuring members of the original development team.
Together, these additions are intended to give longtime fans a closer look at how the series developed throughout its original era.
