Campfire Cabal has shared a new developer diary for Expeditions: Samurai, offering a first look at the homestead feature planned for Act 3 of the tactical RPG. The upcoming addition will let players establish their own village, recruit followers, unlock upgrades, and customize equipment as they progress from a samurai warrior to a lord or lady.
Currently available in Early Access on PC, Expeditions: Samurai is structured around three acts. Act 1 is available now, while development is underway on Act 2. Act 3 is planned for the full release and will introduce the homestead, giving players a settlement of their own to build and expand.
Unlike previous entries in the Expeditions series, which featured camps ranging from the survival-focused encampments of Expeditions: Conquistador to the legion camp in Expeditions: Rome, the new system puts greater emphasis on building relationships with followers and developing a permanent home.
Village upgrades will be unlocked by completing quests and inviting followers rather than grinding for resources. Players will also interact directly with their followers instead of managing everything through menus, with most of these characters joining the camp during the journey.
The homestead will also introduce changes to equipment customization. Weapon abilities will no longer be randomized during crafting, allowing players to customize unique items and outfit their entire party with weapons such as katana and yumi.
Campfire Cabal plans to share more information about the village and the final Early Access update in the future. Before then, the next developer diary, expected in a few weeks, will take a closer look at Update 2.
Expeditions: Samurai is being developed by Campfire Cabal and published by THQ Nordic. The game is available now in Early Access on PC.
