EA is bringing back a sizeable collection of classic PC games, with 25 titles arriving on Steam, including seven Anniversary Editions celebrating the legacy of Road Rash and the Wing Commander franchise. The release gives longtime fans another opportunity to revisit some influential games from EA’s catalogue, while making several historically significant PC titles more accessible to modern audiences.
The Anniversary Editions include Road Rash, alongside six entries from the Wing Commander franchise, featuring updated versions of Wing Commander, Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi, Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger, Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom, Wing Commander Prophecy, and Privateer 2: The Darkening. These releases preserve the original look, feel, and creative vision of each game while introducing quality-of-life improvements designed to accommodate modern systems, controls, and performance expectations.
One of the more interesting aspects of the restoration effort involves EA’s discovery of a physical media vault containing thousands of Betacam, VHS, and D1 tapes, alongside other archival materials. The discovery helped the team recover what were believed to be lost master FMV sequences for the seven Anniversary Editions. More than 1,500 cinematic scenes have since been meticulously re-edited and restored, giving these releases an opportunity to preserve material that might otherwise have remained inaccessible.
EA also credits the Wing Commander community for helping bring these updated releases together. The development team worked with dedicated fans to incorporate community-created modifications into the official Anniversary Editions, acknowledging the contributions that have helped keep the franchise alive over the years. As an additional benefit, anyone who already owns digital copies of the Wing Commander titles on GOG or the EA App will automatically receive the Anniversary Edition upgrades for free on their respective platforms.
Beyond the Anniversary Editions, the collection includes another 18 classic PC games making their way to Steam for the first time. These include several entries in the Ultima franchise, both Crusader games, Theme Hospital, and additional Wing Commander releases, giving the collection considerable variety across multiple genres and eras of PC gaming.
The seven Anniversary Editions are available now for $9.99 each, while the remaining classic games are priced at $4.99 each. The collection is also available across Steam, GOG, and the EA App, with special promotional pricing on Steam and GOG running from November 5 through November 19.
