It’s been four decades since Simon Belmont first picked up the Vampire Killer and stepped into Dracula’s castle, and KONAMI is celebrating Castlevania’s 40th anniversary with plenty for longtime fans to sink their teeth into.
The original Castlevania is now available to play for free on the App Store and Google Play for a limited time, giving fans a chance to revisit where the legendary gothic action series began. The offer runs through October 24, 2026, and puts Simon Belmont’s original battle against Dracula in the hands of a new generation of players.
Originally released for the Famicom in 1986, Castlevania established many of the elements that would go on to define the franchise, from its gothic horror setting and demanding action to its memorable soundtrack. Forty years later, KONAMI is also marking the occasion with discounts of up to 80% on a selection of Castlevania games across PlayStation and Steam.
On PlayStation, the Castlevania Anniversary Collection is 80% off, while the Castlevania Dominus Collection is discounted by 50%, the Castlevania Advance Collection by 70%, and Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood by 70%. The sale runs from September 23 through October 7.
Steam players can take advantage of their own anniversary sale from September 24 through October 8. Alongside the same discounts for the Anniversary, Dominus and Advance collections, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (Ultimate Edition), Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, its Revelations DLC, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD are all receiving 80% discounts.
The anniversary celebrations aren’t stopping with games, either. Castlevania’s music is getting its own spotlight, with Castlevania Black & Red arriving on select streaming platforms on September 26. Fans will also have the opportunity to hear the series performed live when Castlevania 40th Anniversary An Orchestral Concert comes to Los Angeles and London in Spring 2027.
There’s also a new adventure on the horizon. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is scheduled to launch on October 15 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and Nintendo Switch. Set in Paris in 1499, 23 years after the events of Castlevania III, the game follows Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont, as she takes on monsters while making her way through the burning streets of Paris and Dracula’s castle.
Rose will have an assortment of weapons and abilities at her disposal, including the legendary Vampire Killer whip, as she continues the Belmont family’s long-running battle against Dracula.
With the original Castlevania temporarily free, a selection of classic games heavily discounted, new music arriving on streaming services, an orchestral concert on the way and Belmont’s Curse just around the corner, KONAMI is giving the series’ 40th anniversary plenty of room to celebrate its long history.
