Fans looking to bring a little 1990s Bomberman nostalgia back into their living rooms can now do so with a physical copy of Super Bomberman Collection. Red Art Games and KONAMI have announced that the Standard and Deluxe Editions are now available physically across North America and Europe for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X in Europe.
There is a little more waiting involved for collectors, however. The Super Bomberman Collection Collector’s Edition has been pushed back to October 16, while the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will now launch on October 30. The Switch 2 version will be exclusive to Red Art Games in Europe and VGP in North America.
Developed internally by Red Art Games and published digitally by KONAMI, Super Bomberman Collection brings together five Super Bomberman games originally released on the Super Nintendo, including two titles that had never previously been released outside Japan. The compilation goes beyond simply collecting the classic games, with a substantial amount of bonus content packed alongside them.
The collection includes the first Western release of the puzzle spinoff Super Bomberman Panic Bomber W, which will arrive as a free software update on Nintendo Switch, along with the full Famicom versions of Bomberman and Bomberman 2. A new Boss Rush Mode, a music player featuring tracks from all six Super Bomberman games, a gallery containing hundreds of pieces of artwork, save states, rewind functionality, and other quality-of-life features are also included.
Red Art Games is also giving the physical releases a suitably nostalgic touch. Original animation cels used during the 1990s to create artwork for the games’ box art, manuals, and official guides were scanned and incorporated into the physical editions, giving the packaging a direct connection to the era in which these games first appeared.
The Standard Edition includes a copy of the game and a manual, while the Deluxe Edition, limited to 500 PEGI-rated Switch and PS5 copies and exclusive to Red Art Games, adds an alternate-cover sleeve and a bomb-shaped stress ball.
Those looking for the biggest physical package can instead opt for the Collector’s Edition, which includes the game, retro-styled box, manual, steelcase, three enamel pins, a double-sided poster, sticker sheet, and the bomb-shaped stress ball. The Collector’s Edition will be available for the PEGI-rated Switch and PS5 versions.
The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will include the game, an exclusive retro-cover sleeve, manual, and bomb-shaped stress ball. While it was originally planned for an earlier release, fans will now have to wait until October 30 to get their hands on it.
With five Super Bomberman games, previously Japan-exclusive content, additional Famicom titles, and a sizable collection of extras, Super Bomberman Collection is shaping up to be more than a straightforward re-release of the series’ 16-bit classics.
