Fans of Unicorn Overlord have a new fantasy world to keep an eye on, as director Takafumi Noma has unveiled IGNISPHERE, an entirely new intellectual property being developed alongside Good Smile Company and Monochrome Corporation. The project will begin with DAWNGAZER, a new action RPG currently planned for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam in 2028.
Rather than being created solely as the setting for a single game, IGNISPHERE is being built as a much larger fantasy universe containing numerous nations, races, cultures, and stories. Noma is leading the project through IGNISPHERE Studio, with the goal of creating a world that can support different stories and forms of gameplay as the IP expands.
DAWNGAZER will be the first game to introduce players to that world. While details on the action RPG remain limited for now, the newly released teaser offers an early look at its fantasy setting, characters, and visual direction. Yoshimi Kudo, who previously worked on Unicorn Overlord as well as Elden Ring, is composing the game’s music.
IGNISPHERE is also being planned as a multimedia property rather than remaining exclusive to games. Good Smile Company will handle merchandising opportunities, including figures, while multiple light novel projects set within the universe are already in development through Kadokawa’s Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. The companies have also launched an official IGNISPHERE social media account to share future updates.
For Noma, IGNISPHERE represents another opportunity to build a large-scale fantasy setting following his work on Unicorn Overlord. That game saw him involved across multiple aspects of development, including its story and character design, and he is taking a similarly hands-on approach to the creation of this new universe.
DAWNGAZER is currently targeting a 2028 release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, with English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese language support planned. More information about both the game and the wider IGNISPHERE project is expected as development continues.
