City Connection has officially unveiled Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade, a new hack-and-slash action RPG starring the classic ninja hero. The game is in development for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, with a planned release in April 2027.
A New Yokai Adventure for JaJaMaru
In Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade, JaJaMaru sets out to rescue the kidnapped Princess Sakura. His search leads him into an otherworldly dungeon, where he discovers a bizarre Yokai Night Parade filled with hordes of yokai dancing and partying.
Players will battle their way through waves of enemies while exploring the dungeon in search of increasingly powerful equipment. The game combines fast-paced hack-and-slash combat with dungeon exploration and RPG progression, giving JaJaMaru plenty of tools to use as he takes on the supernatural enemies standing between him and Princess Sakura.
The arsenal includes Ninja Swords, Kusarigama, Shuriken, and other weapons, with more than 300 types of equipment available to collect. This gives players plenty of opportunities to customize JaJaMaru and improve his effectiveness as the adventure progresses.
Enter the Yokai Night Parade
One of the game’s central features is the titular Yokai Night Parade.
While exploring the dungeons, players will encounter glowing torii gates that transport JaJaMaru into special encounters where he must battle yokai under unique rules. These encounters pit players against large groups of enemies, including powerful boss yokai capable of commanding massive hordes.
The bosses also have their own distinctive dance moves, adding a particularly unusual twist to the game’s otherwise action-focused combat. Defeating them successfully rewards players with valuable loot that can be used to strengthen JaJaMaru.
The dungeon environments will also vary considerably throughout the adventure. Players will travel through areas including factories, yokocho alleyways, onsen, and snowy mountains, with each region bringing its own collection of enemies and challenges.
Master Powerful Ninpo
JaJaMaru will have more than conventional weapons at his disposal.
As players clear dungeons, they will unlock a variety of Ninpo skills. These powerful ninja techniques can be unleashed against groups of enemies, allowing JaJaMaru to cut through large numbers of yokai at once.
The abilities are designed to complement the game’s fast-paced combat and give players another way to deal with the increasingly dangerous hordes encountered throughout the dungeons. JaJaMaru’s familiar sidekick, Gama Pakkun, will also make an appearance during the adventure.
Customize JaJaMaru’s Home
Between dungeon runs, players can return to JaJaMaru’s room, which serves as the game’s home base.
Here, players can increase JaJaMaru’s stats, upgrade his equipment, and prepare for their next expedition. The room can also be decorated with furniture collected during dungeon runs.
The furniture system is more than simply cosmetic, as individual pieces can provide stat boosts to JaJaMaru. This gives players another way to improve their character while adding a customization element to the game’s progression system.
Once JaJaMaru is properly equipped and prepared, players can head back into the dungeons to continue searching for better gear and take on tougher enemies.
Defeat the Yokai Supreme Commander
At the centre of JaJaMaru’s adventure is Nurari Pyoko, the Yokai Supreme Commander responsible for plotting what is described as the grandest Yokai Night Parade in history.
Players will have to fight through the various dungeon regions, defeat the yokai hordes, and ultimately confront Nurari Pyoko in order to rescue Princess Sakura.
The combination of dungeon exploration, loot collection, character upgrades, special Yokai Night Parade encounters, and customizable equipment gives Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade a considerably deeper structure than a straightforward action game.
Ninja JaJaMaru Returns in 2027
Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade is scheduled to launch in April 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. City Connection is developing and publishing the game.
The game represents another modern return for the long-running JaJaMaru franchise, this time combining its classic ninja protagonist with dungeon-crawling progression, hack-and-slash combat, equipment collection, and a colourful cast of yokai.
