It’s almost time to Get Wild! Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Red Art Games are excited to reveal City Hunter‘s new features and physical editions ahead of its digital release on February 26 on Nintendo Switch™2, Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam®).

Inspired by the first season of Sunrise’s legendary anime, City Hunter follows Shinjuku, Tokyo’s renowned ‘cleaner,’ Ryo Saeba. In this original side story, he faces off against a sinister megacorporation whose conspiracy threatens the world. This new version of SUNSOFT’s game allows players to experience City Hunter as it was released in 1990 or to try the brand new Hard and Enhanced modes.

And that’s not all. To celebrate City Hunter’s rerelease, numerous Quality of Life and bonus features as well as English, French, Italian, German and Spanish localization have been implemented for the first time ever. And as a tribute to the anime’s original ending theme, TM Network’s iconic “Get Wild” has also been added to the in-game music player! More information about the game and its new features and improvements can be found below.

In addition to its digital release, City Hunter will also get multiple physical editions on Nintendo Switch and PS5 in Europe on September 17. While City Hunter‘s Standard and XYZ Collector’s Editions will be available from various retailers upon release, the limited Deluxe Edition (500 copies per platform)  will be exclusive to Red Art Games’ official online store. Pre-orders for all three Nintendo Switch and PS5 versions of City Hunter are live on Red Art Games’ official online store.

About City Hunter:

My name is Ryo Saeba, also known as City Hunter. In this line of work, I’m a well-known professional “sweeper.”

I take on all kinds of jobs, from protecting beautiful women to assassinations. In other words, I’m a cleaner who gets rid of the scum of the city. That means I live a life constantly on the edge. My partner, Kaori, is the younger sister of my deceased best friend, but she never brings in any decent jobs.

So, what kind of work is waiting for me today?

Released for the PC Engine on March 2, 1990 in Japan, City Hunter is the sole official video game adaptation of the eponymous franchise ever released on consoles. After more than 35 years, the time has come for it to make its long-awaited worldwide debut. Developed by Red Art Games as part of City Hunter’s 40th anniversary celebrations, the 2026 version City Hunter is the game’s definitive version.

In addition to being playable in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish for the first time ever, this new version of City Hunter also comes packed with brand new game modes, features and extras. Hard and Enhanced modes as well as Quality of Life features (Save States, Rewind, CRT filter, etc.) have been added for an even more fun gameplay experience while a bonus gallery and a music player are there as treats for fans of Ryo Saeba’s adventures.

Enhanced Mode:

City Hunter‘s Enhanced Mode fixes a number of issues present in the original 1990 release while keeping its difficulty and progression as it was. Controls have been made more responsive and issues such as lag, ineffective projectiles and various bugs have been fixed in order to offer a more enjoyable experience.

Hard Mode:

The Hard Mode is City Hunter‘s definitive version. On top of all the improvements included in the Enhanced Mode, the Hard More also changes item placement, the amount of damage both inflicted and taken, enemy speed and behavior, hit boxes as well as boss fights. A totally new gameplay sequence has even been added to the game for an even more challenging mission!
