The Emperor’s enemies have more chainsword carnage to look forward to, as Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S for $24.99. Developed by Auroch Digital and published by Big Fan Games, the sequel to the best-selling retro-inspired shooter brings back Ultramarine Malum Caedo alongside an entirely new playable character, Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath.

The launch trailer showcases the game’s fast-paced, old-school FPS combat, with players blasting through enemies, carving them up with a chainsword, and trying out new Melta weapons capable of melting, cooking, and vaporizing their targets. The campaign promises a variety of battlefields, secrets, and challenges, building on the classic first-person shooter design that helped establish the original Boltgun.

Players can choose between two distinct combat styles. Malum Caedo returns as the heavily armed Ultramarine, while Nyra Veyrath brings an agile approach to battle with her blade-focused fighting style. They’ll need their respective skills as they take on new enemies from across the Warhammer 40,000 universe, alongside familiar foes such as Chaos Cultists and the plague-spreading Nurglings.

The stakes are suitably apocalyptic, with the powerful Vashtorr the Arkifane having unleashed a catastrophic explosion that destroyed much of the Imperial fleet. Malum and Nyra must travel across multiple worlds to cleanse the corruption powering Vashtorr’s daemonic schemes and attempt to banish him back to the Warp. The story also offers an entry point for newcomers, with recognizable enemies and explosive action that don’t require extensive knowledge of the franchise’s lore.

The soundtrack adds another notable name to the game’s lineup, featuring an original track by Mick Gordon, known for his work on DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. His contribution joins the game’s roaring guitars and pounding drums, providing another dose of heavy metal energy for players preparing to purge heretics in the name of the Emperor.
