Chaosmonger Studio has released a new demo trailer for Voivod: The Nuclear Warrior, an officially licensed game inspired by the music, artwork, and dystopian science fiction of Canadian metal band Voivod. The run-and-gun Metroidvania will be featured in Steam Next Fest from October 19 to 26, giving players their first opportunity to try a free demo ahead of its planned early 2027 release.
Set in a post-nuclear world where reality is breaking apart, Voivod: The Nuclear Warrior combines fast-paced combat and interconnected exploration with a surreal science fiction setting brought to life through handcrafted pixel art. Players control the Voivod, a warrior whose mind has been shattered and body constantly mutates, as he journeys through devastated landscapes and nightmarish dimensions in search of his lost memories. Guided by the mysterious Nothingface, he will face grotesque mutants, uncover strange creatures, acquire new weapons and abilities, and take on formidable bosses.
The upcoming Steam Next Fest demo will feature two distinct modes. Story Path offers approximately the first hour of the full adventure, introducing players to its opening sequence, characters, lore, weapons, and exploration. Those looking for a more immediate taste of the action can try Combat Trial, which provides a broader selection of weapons and abilities alongside intense enemy encounters and a challenging boss fight.
Developed in close collaboration with Voivod, the game draws on the band’s distinctive musical and visual identity to create an interactive take on its science fiction universe. Chaosmonger Studio is also continuing to refine combat, enemy behavior, and gameplay balance as development progresses toward launch.
Voivod: The Nuclear Warrior is planned for release in early 2027 on PC, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck, as well as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. Players can try the free demo during Steam Next Fest from October 19 to 26 and wishlist the game on Steam ahead of its full release.
