Nightdive Studios has announced that SiN: Reloaded, a full remaster of the 1998 cult-classic first-person shooter, will launch on September 24 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The remaster will bring the original game and its Wages of SiN expansion to modern platforms with enhanced visuals, updated controls, improved maps, and a host of additional features.

Originally released in 1998, SiN helped push the Quake II engine to its limits while establishing its own distinctive blend of pulpy action, cyberpunk aesthetics, and cinematic storytelling. The game was also notable for its ambitious approach to level design, featuring non-linear environments, scripted sequences, interactive surroundings, and enemies capable of reacting dynamically to the player’s actions.

In SiN: Reloaded, players once again take on the role of security consultant Colonel John R. Blade as he attempts to stop his longtime nemesis, Elexis Sinclaire. As the CEO of SinTEK Industries, Elexis has begun distributing a DNA-altering drug throughout the streets, transforming ordinary people into genetically engineered mutants. Blade must track down Elexis and put an end to her increasingly dangerous plans.

One of the original SiN‘s biggest strengths was the level of interactivity built into its environments, and SiN: Reloaded aims to preserve that experience. Players can hack computer terminals using DOS-style commands, manipulate elevators and security cameras, and make use of vehicles ranging from forklifts and patrol boats to helicopters. Decisions made throughout the campaign can also influence how certain sections play out, creating branching paths through the game’s levels.

The original game was also an early example of several mechanics that would become more commonplace in first-person shooters. Enemies can have their weapons knocked from their hands, while attacks can inflict damage to specific areas of the body.

SiN: Reloaded includes the Wages of SiN mission pack alongside the main campaign. The additional content pits Blade against a mafia boss and a new group of dangerous enemies. Both campaigns have been rebuilt using Nightdive’s proprietary KEX Engine, with upgraded textures, improved maps, modernized controls, and enhanced visuals designed for current hardware.

Players will also be able to switch between the remastered presentation and the original SiN Gold visuals, allowing longtime fans to experience the game much closer to how it appeared in 1998.

Additional features include:

  • The original SiN campaign and Wages of SiN expansion, both optimized through the KEX Engine
  • Remastered graphics featuring HD textures and models, resolutions of up to 4K, support for up to 144 FPS, anti-aliasing, and upgraded menus and 2D artwork
  • Modernized controls and user interfaces designed for both mouse and keyboard and gamepads
  • Improved maps throughout the game
  • The ability to switch between the remastered visuals and the original SiN Gold presentation
  • Brand-new achievements and trophies
  • Higher-resolution versions of Zak Belika’s music, mixed and engineered by Chris Mock
  • A collection of behind-the-scenes material for longtime fans
  • A free digital upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for players who own the Nintendo Switch version

SiN: Reloaded will launch on September 24 for Windows PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

For fans of classic first-person shooters, SiN: Reloaded looks set to give one of the late 1990s’ more ambitious and unusual shooters a much-needed modern revival while preserving the interactivity and distinctive personality that helped set the original apart.
