Team Lazerbeam and Devolver Digital have released Shroom and Gloom into Steam Early Access, bringing its unusual blend of deck-building, dungeon crawling and roguelike mechanics to PC for $14.99.

Players will descend into a strange, fungus-infested underground world where two separate decks are used to survive the journey. The Combat deck handles the battles against the grotesque mushroom creatures lurking in the depths, while the Explore deck is used to search, unlock, break, ignite, feed and otherwise interact with the environments along the way.

Shroom and Gloom also puts an unusual spin on its enemies, as every creature encountered can be eaten. Fallen fungal foes can be skewered, seasoned and roasted to restore health, or thrown into a pot to create soups that provide various gameplay benefits.

The game’s hand-drawn artwork is combined with detailed 3D environments to create a surreal world filled with strange creatures, twisting caves and the mysterious underground realm known as The Gloom. Players can also continually upgrade and modify their cards, potentially turning basic starting attacks into powerful abilities or transforming rare cards into devastating weapons.

The Early Access launch includes two different paths leading toward The Gloom, each featuring its own card pools, alongside five playable characters, hundreds of cards, numerous enemies and quests that unlock additional content. Team Lazerbeam plans to expand the game throughout Early Access with more cards, enemies, dungeons and other content.

Shroom and Gloom is available now in Early Access on Steam for $14.99.
