Aniplex of America and Fathom Entertainment have announced that Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- will premiere exclusively in US theatres from January 16 to 19, 2027. Revealed during New York Comic Con 2026, the upcoming anime film will screen in both Japanese with English subtitles and an English-dubbed version, giving fans two ways to experience the next chapter of the acclaimed magical girl series on the big screen.
The theatrical announcement was accompanied by news that the previous three films will soon be more widely available to stream. Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings, Part 2: Eternal, and -Rebellion- will arrive on Crunchyroll on November 8, 2026, followed by Netflix on January 2, 2027. Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese dubs will also be available starting November 15.
For fans looking to add the films to their physical collections, the trilogy is also receiving an Ultra HD Blu-ray release. The 4K collection includes all three movies, Dolby Atmos sound, and exclusive package artwork by character designer Junichiro Taniguchi. Priced at $149.98, the set is scheduled to go on sale October 15, with pre-orders available through Crunchyroll and MediaOCD.
An exclusive US promotional visual illustrated by artist Namie was also unveiled for Walpurgisnacht: Rising- as part of the announcements.
Directed by Akiyuki Shimboh, with a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi of Nitroplus, the film continues a series known for subverting expectations surrounding the magical girl genre. Animation studio SHAFT returns, alongside the distinctive parallel-world designs of Gekidan InuCurry and music by Yuki Kajiura.
The original movie trilogy revisited the events of the television series before -Rebellion- took the story in a new direction in 2013. With Walpurgisnacht: Rising- set to continue the cinematic story, the upcoming theatrical release gives audiences an opportunity to revisit the earlier films before the next installment arrives.
Tickets for Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- will go on sale online on December 11, 2026, with tickets also available at participating theatre box offices. Theatre locations may be subject to change.
