Acclaim and Brazilian indie developer Potato Kid are bringing Talaka, a fast-paced roguelite inspired by Afro-Brazilian mythology, to Steam Next Fest: October Edition, running from October 19 to 26. However, players don’t need to wait for the festival to begin, as a free demo is already available on Steam.

The demo offers a first look at Talaka’s hand-painted world, challenging players to battle mythical creatures, experiment with an arsenal of weapons, master mystical abilities, and take on a formidable boss. New demo updates and screenshots have also been released, offering a closer look at the game’s vibrant, watercolor-inspired art style and the diverse environments players will explore.

Drawing from Afro-Brazilian culture and mythology, Talaka follows a young warrior who once believed in the ancient stories of Orisha gods, mystical creatures, and distant realms. As these legends fade from collective memory, the forces that once protected the world become corrupted, threatening the balance between realms. Players must reconnect with divine forces, confront the forgotten legends, and uncover the cause of the growing chaos before these stories disappear forever.

Combat is central to the experience, with each run offering new challenges and more than 150 possible weapon and skill combinations. Players will need to dodge, parry, and make effective use of god-blessed weapons and mystical abilities while facing corrupted spirits and twisted beasts.

The journey will span a range of distinct environments, including the arid Sertão, the Pantanal wetlands, the streets of São Paulo, and the dreamlike depths of the Dark Orun. Each biome is designed as a living painting, bringing the game’s cultural influences and mythical creatures to life through its distinctive visual presentation.

Acclaim says the demo has already received a positive response from players around the world, with Steam Next Fest providing another opportunity to experience the game’s artistic direction and Afro-Brazilian influences before its full release.

Talaka is scheduled to launch on Steam and modern home consoles in early 2027. In the meantime, players can try the free demo on Steam ahead of Steam Next Fest’s October 19 start date.
