Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is gearing up for a substantial second year, with SEGA unveiling a roadmap packed with new racers, expanded gameplay features, and crossover content from some of entertainment’s biggest franchises. The announcement came during the 2026 World Championship Finals in New York, where Mexico’s Exponso emerged victorious after four hours of competition.
More than 40,000 players participated in this summer’s online qualifiers, with the top 24 competitors advancing to the finals. Now, attention turns to the game’s next major phase, which officially begins on November 3, 2026, with the introduction of Duel Mode, an expanded gadget system, and the first wave of Year Two content.
Duel Mode is one of the biggest additions, offering one-on-one races that put item management and a new Duel Boost mechanic at the center of the competition. The Duel Boost gauge fills over time and through frequent item use, allowing players to unleash bursts of speed at strategic moments. Racers can also see their opponents’ items, gadgets, and positions, adding another layer of strategy to deciding when to attack or defend.
The mode will offer several ways to compete, including offline Rival Duel matches against CPU opponents, standard online matchmaking, limited-time best-of-10 events with competitive rankings and medal rewards, and customizable races against friends. Defeating all CPU Rivals in Rival Duel can also unlock rewards, including a special machine.
The gadget system is receiving an overhaul alongside the new mode. The Grand Master Plate introduces a seventh Super Slot, allowing players to equip a one-slot gadget with an even more powerful boosted effect. Fifteen new gadgets will also arrive on November 3, expanding the possibilities for players who enjoy experimenting with different builds. Additionally, characters introduced after the game’s September 25, 2025, launch will begin appearing as CPU opponents in both online and offline modes, including those originally released as paid DLC.
Year Two will also bring several free additions to the roster. Bayonetta leads the lineup on November 3, with players able to unlock the witch through Rival Duel matches. A McLaren Racing machine featuring the team’s Papaya and Anthracite colors will follow later in November, while Aigis from Persona 3 will arrive in early 2027 alongside her Palladion Dressy acceleration-focused machine.

Each free character release will be accompanied by a themed Festival featuring rewards for participating in and winning races. Festivals will now run for ten consecutive days, while returning favorites will appear in shorter events.
For players looking for more substantial crossover additions, Season Pass Two will introduce six premium DLC packs throughout the coming year. The Godzilla Pack kicks things off on November 3, adding the Godzilla Escape course alongside the Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe, and Mothra Surf machines. Additional music tracks and sound effects will round out the pack.
The Evangelion Pack follows in January 2027, bringing the Tokyo-III course, Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley as playable racers, and three machines inspired by the franchise’s iconic EVA units. The Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack is planned for the second quarter of 2027, featuring Hello Kitty and Kuromi, their themed machines, and a course based on the Sanrio attraction.
SEGA’s own history will take the spotlight in the SEGALAND Pack, scheduled for the third quarter of 2027. Its new course will be joined by machines inspired by After Burner, OutRun, and Super Megalo. The fifth pack, currently titled the Midgar Pack, will draw from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, while the sixth, Reload Revival Royal, will bring content from the Persona series. Both are planned for the second half of 2027, with the Midgar Pack and SEGALAND Pack targeting the third quarter and Reload Revival Royal arriving in the fourth.
Season Pass Two also includes bonus content celebrating SEGA’s hardware legacy. A controller decal pack featuring the Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, and Dreamcast Visual Memory Unit is available starting October 9, while a SEGA Consoles Pack with three themed machines arrives on November 3. Players who own both Season Pass One and Season Pass Two will also be able to purchase Super Shadow and his Super Dark Flare machine as bonus content from November 3.
Alongside the content roadmap, SEGA is lowering the game’s entry price. Effective immediately, the Standard Edition drops from US$69.99 to US$39.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition falls from US$89.99 to US$59.99. Season Pass Two is available for US$29.99, and a new Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition, also priced at US$59.99, bundles the base game with the second season pass. Existing owners should avoid purchasing this new edition, as it includes another copy of the Standard Edition.
Physical buyers also have a new option in the Year One Edition, priced at US$59.99 at select retailers. It includes the base game and Season Pass One, along with a reversible 35th Anniversary cover sheet and a commemorative logo patch.
With a new competitive mode, more customization options, free character additions, and crossover packs stretching into late 2027, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has a busy year ahead. The permanent price reductions also make the game more accessible to newcomers just as SEGA begins its next round of updates.
