Professor Layton is trading London for a steam-powered American city this December. LEVEL-5 has announced that Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will launch on December 10 for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam, sending the beloved puzzle-solving duo into their latest mystery.
Set one year after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, the game moves the series away from London and into Steam Bison, an American town that has undergone rapid development thanks to revolutionary steam technology. Despite the town’s impressive advancements, something mysterious is happening in Steam Bison, drawing Layton into another case alongside Luke.
Layton, voiced by Yo Oizumi, remains the renowned archaeologist and puzzle-solving expert at the centre of the adventure, while Mio Imada voices Luke. Now living in America due to his family circumstances, Luke has continued solving puzzles and everyday mysteries, earning himself the nickname “Great Detective Luke.”
The pair will also encounter a new group of characters during their investigation, including twin sisters Elinora and Elida Allinston, inventor Eggmuffin Sonder, wealthy town leader Bolt Allinston, Sheriff Bobsley, the treasure-hunting eagle Falcon, and fortune teller Mystella. Riho Yoshioka voices both Elinora and Elida, while the remaining characters are voiced by Mahiro Takasugi, Shinya Kote, Koichi Yamadera, Akio Otsuka, and Michaela Wako Sato respectively.
LEVEL-5 has also confirmed that the game’s puzzles are being created in collaboration with QuizKnock, the Japanese entertainment and knowledge platform led by Tokyo University quiz champion Takuji Izawa.
Physical editions of the game will be available for Switch 2 and Switch in Japan. The Switch 2 release will use a game-key card.
