The world of HOSHiN ENGi is getting a new life as a roguelite action game. Shueisha Games and developer LASTWONDER have announced HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection, an all-new adventure set in the Chinese mythology-inspired fantasy world created by Ryu Fujisaki. The game is planned for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC via Steam in 2027.

Set after the events of the original manga, HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection follows a young disciple of the legendary sage Taikobo as a new wave of turmoil grips a world populated by immortals, demons, and mythic beasts. Fujisaki, whose HOSHiN ENGi was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and has surpassed 22 million copies in print, is personally overseeing the project while designing a new protagonist for the original story.

The game puts a roguelite spin on the series’ mythology, with players battling through constantly shifting dungeons while building their own fighting style around the legendary Paope treasures wielded by gods and immortals. Main Paope serve as the foundation of a player’s offence, while Sub Paope can alter how battles play out. Players can also combine different abilities, upgrade their equipment, and collect randomly acquired Secret Arts and Materials that can be used to permanently strengthen their characters between runs.

Players won’t be venturing into these dungeons alone, either. Characters from HOSHiN ENGi including Taikobo, Reiju Supushan, Yozen, Nataku, and Koh Tenka will appear throughout the adventure. They can interact with the protagonist back at the base and during dungeon runs, with some even challenging the player to training duels that offer additional rewards.

The player’s Reiju companion will also play an active role in combat. It can fight alongside the player on foot, providing support and disrupting enemies, while mounting it unlocks additional actions such as aerial dashes, evasive movement, and attacks designed to strike enemies from their blind spots.

Each run will feature different dungeon layouts and branching paths, giving players choices over how they want to progress. Depending on the route, players can obtain new Paope, strengthen allies, or take on training battles before pushing further into the dungeon. Falling in battle sends players back to base, where collected resources can be used to improve their characters and equipment before attempting another run.

With Fujisaki directly involved and the game’s hand-drawn visuals designed to evoke the look of his manga artwork, HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection is aiming to give longtime fans a new story in a familiar world while offering newcomers a way into the series. It is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC via Steam in 2027.
