The Metro series is getting a technical upgrade on current-generation consoles, giving players a new reason to return to its post-apocalyptic beginnings before the next instalment arrives. The Metro Redux Next-Gen Update is available today on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing improved visuals and performance to Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux.
The update is free for existing owners of both games, while the PC version is already available through Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, and Windows. Among the headline improvements are true 4K resolution at 60 FPS and upscaled 4K at 120 FPS, with the latter requiring a compatible television or monitor.
The upgrades offer an opportunity to revisit the claustrophobic tunnels, hostile environments, and survival-focused storytelling that helped establish Metro as a notable narrative-driven first-person shooter series. They also give newcomers a chance to experience the original two adventures before moving on to Metro 2039, which is scheduled to launch on February 4, 2027.
With the next chapter approaching, the updated versions of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux provide a convenient way to catch up on the franchise’s earlier stories. Players looking for a full breakdown of the technical changes and platform-specific features can find the complete patch notes through the official Metro channels.
