NIS America has confirmed a release date for The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster, with the dark storybook adventure set to launch in the West on May 13, 2027. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, bringing its unsettling fairy-tale world to a wider audience.

Developed by the team behind The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince and The Cruel King and the Great Hero, The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster follows Mono, a young girl determined to save her sister after she contracts a mysterious disease known as Paper Mortis. The illness transforms its victims into storybooks before turning them into monsters, forcing Mono to seek help from Mär, a creature with his own desire for vengeance.

Mono’s journey takes her through the Libratarium, where her sister is being held, as she ventures into different storybooks to uncover the tragic tales of the girls who became them. The adventure combines puzzle-solving and boss battles with a hand-drawn art style designed to evoke the look of an illustrated picture book.

Mär also plays an important role in both combat and exploration. Players can command him to attack enemies, tear apart the paper environments, and help solve puzzles, although relying on his powers too heavily can cause him to go berserk. Completing storybooks unlocks new abilities, including the power to breathe fire and fly, which can open up additional rewards in previously explored areas.

The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster originally launched in Japan on April 30, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch. The Western release will also bring the game to PC for the first time, with Japanese voice acting and English subtitles supported.
