What happens when you drop a modern arsenal into the middle of a medieval war? That is the question at the heart of Kingmakers, and tinyBuild has now offered the most substantial look yet at how that strange combination actually plays out.
During the latest tinyBuild Connect showcase, the publisher debuted a new 10-minute gameplay deep dive for Kingmakers, highlighting the game’s mix of third-person action and real-time strategy. Set in 1403, the game puts players in the middle of a Welsh rebellion as they help Owain Glyndŵr turn the conflict into the foundation of an empire, although this particular take on medieval warfare comes with a decidedly modern twist.
Players can take directly to the battlefield with an assortment of guns while also commanding massive armies, creating a hybrid approach to combat that allows them to influence battles from the front lines rather than simply directing troops from above. The new footage also showcases vehicles, air support, castle sieges, outpost construction and territorial defense as players attempt to turn the tide of enormous medieval battles.
Kingmakers can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players, giving groups the opportunity to combine its third-person combat with its large-scale strategic systems. The game is currently scheduled to launch into Steam Early Access soon, with players able to sign up for the upcoming playtest through Steam.
