Red Dunes Games has announced that solo developer Joe Yu Studio will showcase Katuba’s Poacher at Tokyo Game Show 2026. The colourful boss rush action roguelite is currently in development for PC and is scheduled to launch in early 2027.
Developed entirely by a single creator, Katuba’s Poacher combines hand-drawn cartoon visuals with fast-paced combat and a soundtrack built around swing jazz. Its biggest hook, however, is the way its boss encounters are tied directly to the music.
Each boss features its own musical theme, with attacks and movement choreographed around the accompanying soundtrack. Players will need to learn attack patterns, react to changing rhythms and carefully time their actions as every encounter turns into its own chaotic musical performance.
The game takes a roguelite approach to its progression, allowing players to collect loot during each run, craft new weapons and unlock skills and traits that can strengthen their hunter. Defeating increasingly challenging monsters brings greater rewards, giving players additional tools to take into their next hunt.
Katuba’s Poacher will also put players under pressure from more than just its monstrous bosses. Rival bounty hunters will pursue the player while they are busy tracking down their own targets, adding another threat to the game’s fast-moving encounters.
The core features include choreographed boss-rush combat, unique attack patterns for each boss, original swing-jazz themes, music-synchronised attacks, loot collection, weapon crafting, and character progression through skills and traits.
With its colourful hand-drawn presentation and deliberately goofy animation style, Katuba’s Poacher looks to pair a lighthearted visual style with demanding action. Tokyo Game Show 2026 will offer players a closer look at the game ahead of its planned PC release in early 2027.
