Publisher Dotemu, known for games such as Absolum and MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, and developer Homo Ludens have announced Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern, a new standalone management simulation set in the iconic fantasy universe. The game is currently scheduled to launch on PC next year.
Rather than stepping into the role of a legendary hero, Long Rest Tavern puts players behind the bar as an innkeeper responsible for keeping adventurers fed, rested and ready for their next quest. Set in the Dalelands, a wild and ancient region of Faerûn, players will build a humble roadside establishment into a thriving destination for some of the realm’s most fearless heroes.
The goal is simple: let the adventurers take the risks while you profit from their exploits. Players will manage their tavern, serve a wide variety of patrons and interact with memorable characters, each bringing their own personalities, skills and interests to the establishment.
The tavern will also play an important role in sending adventurers out into the world. From behind the bar, players can assign quests based on the composition of each adventuring party, with their choices potentially influencing how those quests ultimately unfold. This gives the management gameplay a direct connection to the adventures taking place beyond the tavern’s doors.
Food and drink will be another major part of running the business. Players can cook, brew and experiment with unusual ingredients to create new recipes, gradually expanding their menu as the tavern develops. A varied selection of meals and drinks will be important for attracting patrons from different species and classes, ensuring that every adventurer has something to enjoy after returning from the road.
Running a successful tavern won’t always be easy, either. A rival innkeeper will challenge players to improve their establishment and reach its full potential, while busy periods can quickly turn a quiet evening into a frantic rush of orders. Keeping ingredients and supplies stocked will therefore be just as important as creating an appealing menu.
Money earned from serving weary travellers can be invested back into the business, allowing players to expand and upgrade their tavern. A range of customization options will let players shape the establishment’s layout and appearance, including decorations, artifacts and mementos connected to the people who helped the business grow.
With its combination of tavern management, cooking, customization and Dungeons & Dragons adventuring, Long Rest Tavern offers a different perspective on the world of Faerûn. Instead of risking everything on a dangerous quest, players can sit safely behind the bar, serve the heroes who do and build the most popular watering hole in the Dalelands.
