Decemberborn Interactive has shared a new gameplay trailer for Cathedral: Crow’s Curse, its upcoming action-adventure prequel to Cathedral, as part of ENDIX Expo. The Swedish independent developer is showcasing the game at the November 6-8 multiplayer gaming convention, with attendees able to visit booth #16 on the third floor to get a closer look at the upcoming adventure.
The development team is also making appearances at the booth on November 7 and 8 between 8 and 9 PM GMT, giving attendees an opportunity to meet the developers and discuss the project. Alongside the latest gameplay showcase, Decemberborn Interactive has confirmed that Cathedral: Crow’s Curse is now targeting a 2027 release, although a more specific launch window has yet to be announced.
Rather than continuing the original game’s story with its established protagonist, Cathedral: Crow’s Curse takes a closer look at Crow, a skilled Shade Sentinel who previously appeared as an NPC in Cathedral. The prequel follows Crow as the balance of the Shade Forest begins to collapse, sending the Sentinel into cursed woodland and forgotten ancient ruins in search of answers. Along the way, Crow will uncover more about the origins of the Sentinel order while confronting the dark forces threatening its existence.
The adventure looks to build upon the original Cathedral through a combination of challenging combat, exploration, and atmospheric storytelling. Players can also expect new locations, abilities, and challenges as they uncover a previously unexplored chapter of the series’ lore. For those who enjoyed the original game, the prequel offers an opportunity to explore a different side of its world while learning more about one of its previously established characters.
The additional development time is also intended to help the team deliver the experience it has envisioned. “We decided to take more time to make Crow’s Curse the game we want it to be than rush it out,” said Eric Lavesson, Lead Developer at Decemberborn Interactive. He also credited feedback from the game’s demo as an important part of development, noting that ENDIX Expo provides an opportunity to meet players and hear what they would like to see from the upcoming adventure.
Those interested in trying the game themselves do not necessarily have to wait for its eventual release. A playable demo of Cathedral: Crow’s Curse is currently available on Steam, with support for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), and Swedish. With its release now planned for 2027, players have more time to get acquainted with Crow before this new chapter of the Cathedral universe arrives.
