The Atari 7800 is getting an unusual 40th-anniversary collectible, and this one is designed to be worn rather than plugged into a television. Nubeo has introduced the Console Automatic Atari 7800 40th Limited Edition, a mechanical wristwatch inspired by the classic gaming console, complete with a joystick-shaped second hand. Released on November 6 for $320 USD, the watch is limited to 500 individually numbered pieces across four colourways.
Originally released in 1986, the Atari 7800 helped extend the company’s console legacy by offering compatibility with most Atari 2600 games, allowing owners to revisit an existing library alongside newer releases. Its improved graphical capabilities also helped bring more arcade-style experiences into the home. Nubeo is drawing on that history with a design that incorporates several recognizable elements from the era.
The Console Automatic features a squared 42mm stainless steel case, an Atari-branded dial with the company’s familiar rainbow colours, and a second hand shaped like a classic joystick. Rather than relying on a conventional battery-powered quartz movement, the watch uses a Japanese Miyota automatic movement that winds through wrist movement. Its mechanism can also be viewed through a transparent exhibition caseback, while the watch itself offers 5 ATM water resistance.
The collection arrives in four colourways, each with its own production limit. Arcade Amber features a full stainless steel case and bezel, a black dial and a bright amber-yellow strap, with 100 numbered pieces available. Pixel Peridot takes a considerably greener approach, pairing a green case, bezel and dial with a matching strap, also limited to 100 pieces. Event Horizon opts for an entirely black case, bezel and dial with a matching black strap, making it the largest production run at 200 numbered watches.
The fourth option, Zenith Zero, features a deep blue case, bezel and dial alongside a matching blue strap. Produced exclusively for Atari, this version is limited to just 100 numbered pieces.
Additional specifications include a 16mm-thick case, an anti-reflective coated mineral lens, a pull-out crown and a 26mm FKM rubber strap. Every watch also ships in console-inspired packaging accompanied by a numbered limited-edition card styled after a classic game cartridge.
The Nubeo Console Automatic Atari 7800 40th Limited Edition is priced at $320 USD. Arcade Amber, Pixel Peridot and Event Horizon are available through Nubeo’s official website, while Zenith Zero is an Atari exclusive.
