Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered has another monster-sized surprise for players, as it turns out the newly released fighting game supports four-player online private lobbies despite previously being announced with a two-player online limit.

When the game was first announced, the developers confirmed that online matches would be limited to two players. However, the team at Pipeworks Studios continued working on the feature in the weeks leading up to release, carrying out additional development and testing to bring support for up to four players into the finished game.

Interestingly, this wasn’t something the team had officially announced ahead of launch, meaning that players have been gradually discovering the expanded multiplayer functionality for themselves. While four-player private lobbies are not necessarily a replacement for a more comprehensive online matchmaking experience, the additional support gives players another way to enjoy the monster-filled battles with friends.

The discovery also comes at a promising time for Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered. The game has already attracted considerable attention on Steam, where it briefly claimed the platform’s number one spot earlier this week. More than 900 player reviews have also resulted in a 94% positive reception, with the game’s reception on consoles reportedly proving similarly encouraging.

Pipeworks’ decision to squeeze additional multiplayer support into the final weeks of development is a welcome surprise, particularly for a game built around bringing some of cinema’s most recognizable monsters together for destructive battles. For players looking to settle their own monster-sized rivalries with friends, the ability to bring four players into private online lobbies is another reason to give the remaster a closer look.
