Bethesda Game Studios has officially revealed the name of its next major fantasy RPG, announcing The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel as part of the studio’s 40th anniversary celebrations. First announced in 2018, the long-awaited next entry in the legendary franchise has spent years without a proper title, making this an important new milestone for the project.

The announcement arrives alongside a special anniversary message from Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard, reflecting on the company’s journey from a small development team in Maryland to one of the most recognizable names in the gaming industry. Rather than simply looking back at its biggest releases, the celebration highlights four decades of experimentation, technological progress, and the studio’s efforts to create memorable experiences across different genres.

That history includes early releases such as Gridiron and Wayne Gretzky Hockey, followed by The Terminator, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Fallout 3, and the hugely successful The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. More recently, Bethesda Game Studios expanded its established franchises with Fallout 76 before venturing into an entirely new universe with Starfield in 2023. The studio is now looking ahead to its next major project with The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.

To celebrate the announcement, Bethesda is also bringing something to existing fans through The Elder Scrolls Online. A new limited-time Golden Pursuit campaign called Alik’r Awaits is now available, allowing both new and returning players to earn rewards by exploring the game’s Second Era interpretation of the Alik’r Desert. The campaign runs from November 3 through November 10.

Although Bethesda has finally given its next Elder Scrolls adventure an official name, there are still plenty of questions surrounding the project. Further details about its gameplay, release date, and platforms have yet to be provided, meaning fans will have to wait for a more substantial look at what Sentinel has in store.

For now, the announcement gives the long-awaited sequel a new identity while marking another milestone in Bethesda Game Studios’ history. After nearly a decade since its initial reveal, The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel is finally taking another step toward becoming a reality.
