Bill and Ted are ready to travel through time once again, this time with a new arcade-inspired adventure. Art of Play has announced Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Arcade, a side-scrolling action adventure game coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. While a release date has yet to be revealed, a crowdfunding campaign is also planned.

Inspired by the classic 1989 film, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Arcade brings the two most excellent heroes into a 16-bit adventure filled with historical figures, pixel art, and plenty of time-travelling antics. Players can take control of Bill S. Preston Esq. or Ted Theodore Logan as they attempt to complete their report, recruit famous figures from history, and save the world in the process.

The game features 15 side-scrolling levels, with the option to play solo or team up with a friend through local couch co-op. Along the way, Bill and Ted will encounter historical figures such as Billy the Kid, Socrates, Napoleon, Beethoven, and Genghis Khan. Rather than simply recruiting them, players will need to take on unique mini-games and challenges to win their support.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Arcade also promises a handcrafted pixel art presentation and an ’80s rock soundtrack to complement its retro arcade aesthetic. Completing the story mode will unlock additional content, including an arcade mode, mini-games, and more.

Although the announcement does not include a release window, the planned crowdfunding campaign could provide a better idea of when Bill and Ted will return to consoles and PC. For now, fans can look forward to another opportunity to travel through time with the two most excellent dudes.
