Publisher Top Hat Studios and developer Nico Papalia have announced that Tales of Tuscany, the follow-up to 2024’s Athenian Rhapsody, will launch on February 22, 2027. Described as a “WarioWare-soaked open-world RPG,” the upcoming adventure brings its own brand of absurdist chaos to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android.
Rather than sticking to the familiar conventions of a traditional RPG, Tales of Tuscany embraces the kind of unpredictable gameplay that makes WarioWare so distinctive. Players take control of Lambypoo, a small sheep tasked with saving their cousins after the evil wizard Thunder Goober obliterates the land of Tuscany for his own amusement. With the world left in ruins, players will have the freedom to decide how they want to rebuild it, whether that means helping its inhabitants or taking advantage of the chaos.
Tales of Tuscany takes an unconventional approach to RPG combat, allowing players to befriend enemies and recruit them into their party rather than simply defeating them for experience points. Nearly every enemy can become an ally, complete with their own stats, Burst skills, and personalities. Those who prefer a more traditional approach can still fight their way through Tuscany, but the game’s many unusual encounters promise to keep things interesting.
Combat itself is far from conventional, with certain battles introducing entirely different gameplay mechanics. Players may find themselves carving pumpkins, surfing at a public pool, completing paperwork, or even stealing money from elderly characters. This emphasis on variety evokes the rapid-fire absurdity of WarioWare, with Tales of Tuscany applying that unpredictable approach to an RPG adventure. The game’s emphasis on player choice extends beyond combat, with decisions influencing the world and determining how the adventure unfolds.
Every completed playthrough also generates a collectible postcard called a Rhapsody, documenting the player’s journey through Tuscany. These customizable keepsakes can be traded across platforms, giving players another way to share their choices and experiences with friends.
With its emphasis on player freedom, absurdist humor, and WarioWare-inspired gameplay, Tales of Tuscany looks to offer a particularly unusual take on the RPG genre when it launches next February.
