Deck13 Spotlight has announced Lair of the Leviathan, a new old-school turn-based RPG from Nostalgic Realms and Whiskybarrel Studios that aims to recapture the sense of adventure found in classic role-playing games. Inspired by Ultima, Pools of Radiance, and the early Baldur’s Gate games, the upcoming RPG promises a handcrafted pixel-art world filled with towns, dungeons, exploration, and tactical battles.

Developed by two solo developers who joined forces to bring their shared vision to life, Lair of the Leviathan is built around the idea of letting players chart their own paths through a world rather than following a trail of quest markers. Its design emphasizes party building, interesting side quests, carefully balanced turn-based combat, and environments packed with details to discover at the player’s own pace.

The developers hope to recapture the appeal of older RPGs, where exploration and player-driven adventure took center stage. Rather than relying on spectacle, the game aims to create a world that encourages players to use their imagination as they explore its towns, uncover its dungeons, and find their way through its mysteries.

Lair of the Leviathan was revealed during the announcement event for Drova II: Torn Lands, another old-school RPG set to be published by Deck13 Spotlight. The reveal also showcased cover art by Matt Stawicki, alongside the game’s first announcement teaser, offering an initial look at its fantasy setting and pixel-art presentation.

Lair of the Leviathan is in development for PC and consoles, with wishlisting now available on Steam and GOG. Further details are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
