FOUNTAINS has wasted little time making the jump to Nintendo Switch 2. Just one week after the soulslike action RPG arrived on the original Nintendo Switch, Crunching Koalas has released its Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, bringing a couple of new features to the game while giving existing owners a particularly nice reason to make the upgrade.
The biggest addition is Gauntlet Mode, an exclusive trial mode that challenges players to take on each of FOUNTAINS’ bosses one after another. That gives players looking for a more focused combat challenge something new to tackle beyond the game’s interconnected world and exploration.
The Switch 2 Edition also takes advantage of the newer hardware with support for 120 FPS, allowing the game’s combat to run at a significantly higher frame rate on compatible displays. Given FOUNTAINS’ emphasis on precise, demanding combat, the additional performance should be a welcome addition for players with the hardware to take advantage of it.
Perhaps the best part of the release is that players who already purchased FOUNTAINS on Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition at no additional cost. The original game remains playable on Nintendo Switch, while the new features and enhancements are exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.
FOUNTAINS is a soulslike action RPG built around a large, interconnected world that functions almost like one enormous dungeon. Players take on the role of a hooded stranger attempting to escape a tyrannical regime, with combat, exploration, abilities, and environmental storytelling all playing a role in uncovering the world’s secrets.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now available, FOUNTAINS gives its recently released Nintendo audience another reason to return to its dark fantasy world, while newcomers can jump in with the upgraded version from the start.
