Dune: Awakening has officially expanded beyond PC, as Funcom’s open-world survival game based on Frank Herbert’s Dune and the recent film adaptations from Legendary Entertainment and Denis Villeneuve is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox.

The timing could hardly be more appropriate for Dune fans, with Dune: Part Three set to arrive in theaters on December 18. Whether you’re looking to explore Arrakis before the next film or simply want another way to experience the world of Dune, Dune: Awakening now offers a substantial amount of content for both new and returning players.

The console launch also arrives alongside a major update that brings the game’s PC improvements to PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Among the biggest additions is a full single-player mode, allowing the entire game and its content to be experienced without requiring a multiplayer-focused approach.

Players can also customize the experience to a much greater degree, with options covering everything from harvesting rates and experience gain to death penalties. The latest update adds hours of new story content as well, bringing the first chapter of Dune: Awakening to its conclusion.

That’s only part of what has changed since the game’s original launch. More than 15 months of updates and improvements are included with the console versions, including the ability to play the entire game through PvE without having to participate in PvP. The Deep Desert endgame has also been split between dedicated PvE and PvP instances, with the PvP version offering greater risks alongside greater rewards.

Funcom has also made changes aimed at reducing some of the harsher penalties associated with survival. Players can now save their bases, recover their vehicles and no longer have to deal with taxes, while death penalties have been reduced. The endgame has been rebuilt around missions and progression through the ranks of either the Atreides or Harkonnen.

New maps, dungeons, weapons and dynamic encounters have been added alongside new progression systems, including Augmentations and Specializations. Combat has also received further refinement, particularly when it comes to melee, while performance has been improved through console-focused optimization.

That’s a fairly substantial package for a console launch, but Funcom isn’t stopping with the game itself. A new DLC pack called Filmic Archive is now available across all platforms, giving players a way to bring more of the visual style from the Dune films into their version of Arrakis.

The $9.99 DLC includes outfits and equipment inspired by the movies, including the Caladan Stormcoat worn by Duke Leto and Paul in Dune: Part One and the Aegis of an Unwalked Path armor inspired by Paul Atreides’ visions of the Fremen holy warriors in Dune: Part Two. It also adds 73 Sardaukar building pieces, additional decorations, weapons and emotes.

On Xbox, Dune: Awakening is available through Xbox Game Pass, while members can purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition at 20% off. The game also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing progression to carry over between Xbox consoles, the Windows Store, ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Cross-play between platforms is planned for a post-launch update.

PC players aren’t being left behind, either. To celebrate the console release and latest update, Dune: Awakening is currently available for 50% off on Steam, marking the game’s deepest discount so far. The offer runs until October 8.

A physical PlayStation 5 edition is also now available through retail and online stores. The physical release is being distributed by Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe across EMEA, Australia and New Zealand, Solutions 2 GO in the Americas, and Spike Chunsoft in Japan. The Japanese physical release will follow on October 29.

With the PS5 and Xbox versions launching alongside the game’s accumulated updates, new single-player options and additional content, Dune: Awakening has arrived on consoles with considerably more to offer than it did when it first launched on PC.
