MR. RECORDS is opening the doors to George’s record shop a little earlier than expected, with Wired Productions and developer Glee-Cheese releasing the game’s first public demo on Steam ahead of Steam Next Fest this October. The demo gives players their first chance to experience the opening of George’s story while getting a taste of the game’s unusual combination of rhythm gameplay, music and cozy record shop management.

The demo also comes with another announcement for players waiting to see where MR. RECORDS is headed. In addition to the previously announced PC and Nintendo Switch 2 versions, the game is now confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

MR. RECORDS follows George, an old dreamer who finally decides to break away from a life spent standing still and open the record shop he has always wanted. During the day, players will run the shop, interact with its colorful customers, learn about their musical tastes and help them find the right records. Those records aren’t simply collectibles, however, as each one provides a doorway into a completely different musical adventure.

Once George puts on a record, the shop gives way to vibrant worlds shaped by his imagination and the music playing around him. Players will run, jump, slide, dodge and chain actions together to the beat while exploring more than 40 handcrafted levels. The game’s musical journeys are also designed to reflect George’s memories and experiences, with some songs offering more joyful recollections while others touch on regret, lost love and the life he left behind.

The record shop itself is more than a place to buy and sell albums. Customers have their own stories and musical preferences, with riddles, conversations and discoveries helping George expand his collection. As new records are acquired, they open up additional musical adventures, gradually turning the small shop into the center of George’s new life.

Between those journeys, George can retreat to his bedroom above the shop, which serves as a quieter hub for reviewing memories, tracking progress and taking calls. The game also promises plenty of variety outside its core rhythm mechanics, including rhythm battles, surreal minigames, chase sequences, environmental changes and activities involving George’s dog, Buzz.

Music is naturally at the heart of the experience, with MR. RECORDS featuring original tracks spanning funk, progressive rock, hip-hop, electro, world music and ’80s pop. The soundtrack was composed by the developers themselves, with each style helping shape the different worlds George encounters.

The public demo is available now on Steam, giving players an early opportunity to see how MR. RECORDS blends its record shop management with its more surreal musical adventures before Steam Next Fest arrives in October.

MR. RECORDS is in development for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also available to wishlist on Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation and Xbox, with Nintendo Switch 2 wishlisting coming at a later date.
