Independent developer Why Knot Studio and publisher Red Dunes Games have officially brought Princess of the Water Lilies Definitive Edition to PlayStation 5, giving console players the chance to experience the hand-drawn puzzle-platformer alongside a host of improvements over the original PC release.
Originally released on PC in late 2025, Princess of the Water Lilies was the debut title from Red Dunes Games. Following requests from the game’s community for a console version, Why Knot Studio returned to the project and used the opportunity to significantly rework and refine the experience. The Definitive Edition features updated visuals, redesigned characters, improved audio, revamped challenges and a number of other changes.
Princess of the Water Lilies takes players into a storybook-inspired world influenced by the golden age of animation. The adventure combines side-scrolling platforming and environmental puzzles with exploration, combat, hidden paths and increasingly demanding challenges, all accompanied by a live-recorded orchestral score.
At the center of the adventure is Princess, a flat-faced cat who was raised by a family of frogs. Rather than relying solely on traditional attacks, Princess has a magical purr capable of healing the environment. Her ability can make plants bloom, activate machinery, restore corrupted areas and even create new routes through the world, turning environmental restoration into an important part of both exploration and puzzle solving.
The game’s approach to its bosses also fits with that more compassionate premise. Instead of simply defeating them through violence, Princess can use her healing abilities to cleanse their corruption and ultimately free them. Along the way, players will explore forests, caves and other mysterious environments while searching for secrets and hidden treasures.
The Definitive Edition also introduces a new gallery containing hand-painted splash art that can be unlocked throughout the adventure. Boss encounters have been revisited with tighter attack patterns, more dynamic phases and improved balancing across the difficulty settings, while additional cinematic cutscenes expand the game’s story.
Why Knot Studio has also polished the game’s visual effects, added new sound effects and repainted select assets for greater visual consistency. The difficulty modes have likewise been refined to provide a more accessible introduction before players encounter the game’s tougher platforming challenges and boss battles.
Princess of the Water Lilies Definitive Edition is available today, September 17, 2026, on PlayStation 5.
