Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement has resurfaced with a fresh look at its gothic action RPG gameplay, as 505 Games and ArtPlay unveiled a new trailer during today’s Xbox Showcase at Tokyo Game Show.

Serving as a prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, The Scarlet Engagement takes the series back to 16th-century England for a new chapter in the history of the Bloodstained universe. The upcoming adventure is being developed under the direction of series creator Koji Igarashi, with the latest footage offering the most substantial look yet at what players can expect when the game arrives.

The new trailer introduces previously unseen characters, environments, enemies, and gameplay mechanics, giving fans a better idea of how ArtPlay is expanding upon the exploration, combat, and progression systems established by Ritual of the Night. The game once again combines fast-paced action with a gothic setting, while its 2.5D presentation gives the world its own distinct visual identity.

Players will take control of two new heroes, Leonard and Alex, as they attempt to put an end to the reign of Elias, a mysterious figure whose floating castle has become a source of terror for the surrounding kingdom. With demonic forces spreading across the land, the pair must explore the cursed countryside, battle its inhabitants, craft new equipment, and uncover the dark origins of the Bloodstained universe.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is currently scheduled to launch in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The latest trailer provides a much closer look at the adventure ahead, but there is still plenty of time before its release for ArtPlay to reveal more about Leonard, Alex, Elias, and the events that connect this prequel to Ritual of the Night.
