Kojima Productions’ Physint has found a new publisher, with Xbox Game Studios stepping in after Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed it has made the “difficult decision” to step away from the upcoming action-espionage game.

Sony announced the change in a statement, while making it clear that its relationship with Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions remains strong after three decades of collaboration. The company said it continues to have “great admiration” for Kojima’s vision for Physint and looks forward to working with his studio again in the future.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma welcomed Kojima Productions to the Xbox publishing family, saying that creators should have the freedom to decide where and how they bring their ideas to life. She added that Xbox is honoured Kojima-san has chosen the company to work with Kojima Productions on Physint, highlighting his ambition to challenge conventions.

Kojima Productions founder Hideo Kojima also confirmed that the move expands the studio’s relationship with Xbox beyond OD, the cloud-based project being developed in collaboration with Microsoft. According to Kojima, the team remains committed to redefining the action-espionage genre with Physint.

The partnership will also extend beyond games, as Xbox and Kojima Productions plan to collaborate across film and television in an effort to bring new stories to wider audiences.

Physint was originally announced in January 2024, though a release date has yet to be revealed.
