The killing game is returning in a very different form, as Spike Chunsoft and developer Gemdrops have announced that Danganronpa 2×2 will launch on January 14, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Danganronpa 2×2 is built on the foundation of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, bringing back Jabberwock Island and its cast of Hope’s Peak Academy students. However, a new incident sets the killing game on an entirely different path, resulting in a new lineup of victims, culprits, and murder tricks. The new scenario is said to offer the same volume of content as the original game.
The original Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair scenario will also be included, receiving updated visuals, a refined presentation, and quality-of-life improvements for modern platforms. This gives players the opportunity to experience the original story alongside the newly created scenario.
As in previous entries, players will investigate murders, gather evidence, and confront their classmates during Class Trials to determine who is responsible. The trials feature high-speed debates where players must use collected evidence as Truth Bullets to shoot down contradictory statements, with the game’s trials also being fully voiced by its cast.
The story is divided into three main phases. During Daily Life, players can freely explore Jabberwock Island and interact with the Ultimate Students until a murder takes place. The Investigation phase then has players examine crime scenes, question their classmates, and gather the evidence needed for the upcoming trial. Finally, the Class Trial puts that evidence to the test as the students debate the details of the case and players work to uncover the Blackened.
