Bloober Team has unveiled Onyx: The Dark Grip, a new dark adventure game developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The game is currently scheduled to launch in 2027.

Developed by Broken Mirror Games, Onyx: The Dark Grip takes place in an isolated town trapped in an endless winter. Players experience the story through two sides of the same struggle: The Vessel, an ordinary man fighting to survive, and The God, a mysterious godlike entity possessing him.

As The Vessel, players will explore the frozen town, manage limited resources, battle enemies and contend with the dangers lurking beneath the snow. When human abilities are no longer enough, players can take control as The God, manipulating reality to protect The Vessel and alter the world around him. Knowing when to rely on each side will be key to survival.

The game is also being designed specifically around the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware. Touch controls will allow players to manipulate objects in the world, while tilting the system can unleash The God’s power to crush enemies. Players will even be able to blow into the console’s microphone to provide warmth to The Vessel and prevent him from succumbing to the cold.

According to Broken Mirror Games, these interactions are not intended as optional gimmicks, but as fundamental parts of gameplay and the relationship between The Vessel, The God and the player. The developer also teases additional uses of the Switch 2 hardware that have yet to be revealed.

Alongside its survival mechanics, exploration and combat, Onyx: The Dark Grip will feature an original score composed by Polish multi-instrumentalist Jan Borysewicz and performed by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno said the idea behind the game came from treating the Switch 2 itself as part of the experience, with the developer asking what it would mean for players to feel as though they were holding another person’s world in their hands.
