Fans of classic RPGs have another reason to keep an eye on 2027, as NIS America has announced that Astonishia Story will make its way to modern platforms next year. The cult-classic Korean RPG is being updated for a new generation of players, with enhanced visuals and refined mechanics while retaining the tactical, grid-based combat that helped define the original experience.

Astonishia Story is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam on February 11, 2027.

The game puts players in the role of Lloyd von Reuental, a protagonist whose journey begins with a stolen relic and a quest to restore his honour. What starts as a personal mission eventually grows into something much larger, drawing Lloyd into a conflict involving prejudice, manipulation, duty, and powers capable of threatening the entire world.

At the centre of the story is the Elven Queen, who seeks to claim the power of an ancient god. Stopping her will require Lloyd and his allies to travel across the game’s world, uncover the truth behind the conflict, and ultimately decide just how far they are willing to go to fulfil their duty.

While the story provides the larger adventure, combat is where Astonishia Story puts its tactical RPG roots on full display. Battles take place across grid-based battlefields, requiring players to carefully consider the positioning of their units before making a move. Simply charging into an enemy formation isn’t necessarily the best approach, with movement, abilities, and battlefield positioning all playing a role in determining the outcome of an encounter.

That tactical focus also gives players plenty of opportunities to experiment with their party. Lloyd won’t have to face the dangers of his journey alone, as a variety of mercenaries can be recruited along the way. These optional characters bring their own abilities and skill sets to the battlefield, giving players additional options when putting together a team.

Finding those potential allies may require a little curiosity, however. Players are encouraged to speak with the people they encounter during their travels, as some of the game’s characters may be willing to join the adventure. Building the right group of allies could make a significant difference when facing tougher battles.

The upcoming version is also designed to make the classic RPG more accessible to modern audiences. Astonishia Story will feature completely updated graphics and higher-resolution visuals, giving its presentation a modern refresh while preserving the identity of the original game.

For longtime fans, that makes the release an opportunity to revisit a cult classic with a new coat of paint. For newcomers, it could provide a chance to discover a Korean RPG that may have flown under their radar when it originally released.

NIS America is also offering a Special Edition for collectors and longtime fans of the series. The package will include the Astonishia Story Original Soundtrack, an Astonishing Sights Card Set, and an exclusive acrylic keychain.

Astonishia Story will launch for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on February 11, 2027. With its combination of classic RPG storytelling, grid-based tactical combat, recruitable mercenaries, and upgraded visuals, the return of Astonishia Story could be an interesting one for players looking to uncover an older RPG that is getting a second chance on modern hardware.
