Cowabunga! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back in action, and this time they have some unexpected reinforcements joining the fight. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants – Ninja Edition is now available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the arcade beat ’em up to Nintendo’s new hardware with enhanced visuals, improved performance, and two new playable characters.
Published by TRAILblazer Games and developed by Cradle Games and Raw Thrills, Wrath of the Mutants – Ninja Edition builds on the original arcade release while incorporating the expanded content introduced in the game’s previous home-console version. The Switch 2 edition goes a step further by adding Master Splinter and Casey Jones to the playable roster, giving players two entirely new ways to take on Shredder and the Foot Clan.
The game is based on the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, bringing Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo back for another side-scrolling brawl. Fans of the series will also recognize the voices behind the four brothers, with Seth Green, Sean Astin, Rob Paulsen and Greg Cipes reprising their respective roles as the Turtles.
For this new edition, however, players aren’t limited to the four brothers. Master Splinter and Casey Jones can now enter the fray, making this version particularly appealing to fans who have already played Wrath of the Mutants on other platforms. Their inclusion also adds some extra variety to the familiar arcade formula as players battle through hordes of Foot Clan soldiers and other enemies.
The adventure takes the Turtles and their allies across locations including Coney Island and Dimension X as they attempt to put a stop to Shredder’s latest scheme. The campaign features six stages and 13 boss battles, with three stages and six bosses coming from the expanded version of the game rather than the original arcade release.
Combat remains firmly rooted in classic arcade beat ’em up action. Each character has access to unique super attacks that can be unleashed to clear out groups of enemies, while collectible tokens can be used to summon mutant allies for additional assistance during battles. That straightforward approach makes Wrath of the Mutants a natural fit for both solo play and multiplayer sessions.
Speaking of multiplayer, up to four players can team up through local couch co-op. With all six playable characters available, groups of friends and family can jump into the action together and choose their favourite member of the extended TMNT lineup.
The Switch 2 version also takes advantage of the newer hardware with improved graphics and enhanced performance, giving the arcade-style brawler a technical upgrade alongside its new content. While the core experience remains familiar to returning players, the combination of additional fighters and hardware enhancements makes Ninja Edition more than a simple re-release.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants – Ninja Edition is available digitally now in North America through the Nintendo eShop for $29.99. Players in Europe and Australia will have to wait a little longer for the physical version, which is scheduled to launch globally on October 9.
