Bandai Namco Entertainment America has revealed new details about GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, the upcoming action game that will take the iconic Mobile Suit franchise into an entirely new timeline. Developed by Bandai Namco Studios, the game will launch on March 5, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Set against an unknown threat known as the Apocalypse, GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT puts players in the cockpit of the Gundam Helix as ace pilot RE-X fights for humanity’s survival across a solar system plunged into chaos. Rather than revisiting one of the franchise’s established timelines, the game is building its own version of the Gundam universe, complete with new characters, Mobile Suits, factions, and a story centered on a desperate fight against an enemy unlike anything humanity has faced before.
A newly released trailer offers a closer look at that world while showcasing more of the game’s action-focused combat. Among the biggest mysteries introduced in the footage is a previously unseen black Mobile Suit with glowing red eyes, hinting at one of the threats RE-X will eventually encounter.
RE-X won’t be fighting alone. Accompanying the pilot is Vii, a Haro unit created specifically to support the Gundam Helix. Unlike a standard Haro, Vii functions as a general-purpose intelligent assist unit, providing RE-X with a partner as the pair takes on the forces of the Apocalypse.
The story will also introduce a number of characters whose own motivations and allegiances could play a major role in RE-X’s journey. Sofia is a mysterious young woman who keeps a close watch on RE-X, while April serves as the captain of the Stellarvane, an independent special-duty vessel involved in missions against the Apocalypse.
Elsewhere, players will encounter Big Paul, the leader of a group of sand pirates who have taken up the fight against the Apocalypse while raiding wealthy transports to provide supplies to settlers. Elaine brings another perspective to the conflict as a knight commander and highly skilled Mobile Suit pilot who personally leads her forces into battle.
While the story looks set to give GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT plenty of narrative weight, the game’s combat is designed to give players considerable control over how their Gundam performs in battle. The Gundam Helix can be customized with different weapons, frames, thrusters, and Apocalypse Units, or AP-Us, allowing players to build a Mobile Suit around their preferred approach to combat.
Weapons aren’t simply stat changes, either. Each weapon comes with its own actions and skills, giving players additional options when deciding how to approach the game’s battles. Combined with the ability to customize the Gundam Helix’s appearance and color scheme, the system should give players plenty of room to create a Mobile Suit that feels like their own.
Combat will take place across large-scale environments both on the ground and in the air, with the game’s action built around adapting to changing situations and making use of the equipment players have selected. The combination of Mobile Suit customization and fast-paced battles appears to be one of the game’s major focuses as Bandai Namco introduces this new chapter of the Gundam saga.
Preorders for GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT are now open, with an early unlock of the Earth Blue color customization included as a preorder bonus. Bandai Namco is also offering several editions of the game, giving fans a range of options depending on how far they want to dive into the new Gundam experience.
The Standard Edition includes the base game, while the Launch Edition adds reversible cover art, an 11-by-17-inch poster, and a promotional card for the Gundam Card Game. The Deluxe Edition includes the base game alongside the Premium Mod Skins Set, Mobile Suit Color Pack 14-Color Set, Digital Artwork & Music Selection, and a Mission Reward Booster.
The Collector’s Edition goes considerably further, combining the Launch Edition’s physical bonuses with all of the Deluxe Edition’s digital content. The package also includes a steel case, five Gundam Card Game promotional cards, and an exclusive HG 1/144 ARK-10 GUNDAM HELIX model kit in the Earth Blue color scheme.
With its original timeline, new Gundam Helix, mysterious black Mobile Suit, and emphasis on customizable action, GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is shaping up to be a distinctly different kind of Gundam game. Fans will have to wait until March 5, 2027, to see how RE-X’s battle against the Apocalypse unfolds, but the latest footage suggests there is considerably more to this new conflict than simply another Mobile Suit war.
