Devolver Digital and Croteam are teaming up once again to bring Serious Sam back for another round of explosive first-person shooter action. Announced as Serious Sam: The Third Encounter, the new entry picks up directly after Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, continuing Sam Stone’s fight against the forces of the Notorious Mental. The game is in early development and is currently announced for PC via Steam.
Rather than serving as a prequel or a spin-off, The Third Encounter promises to push the series’ main story forward, sending Sam into another battle against overwhelming enemy forces. Players can expect the franchise’s familiar arcade-style shooting, with enormous enemy hordes, a returning arsenal of classic weapons, and new tools of destruction to help turn the tide against Mental’s army.
The sequel will also introduce new alien worlds, including hostile landscapes and strange strongholds that serve as battlegrounds for Sam’s latest campaign. Alongside its single-player offering, the game will support cooperative play, allowing players to take on Mental’s forces together.
Serious Sam: The Third Encounter is being developed by Croteam, the studio behind the original Serious Sam games and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem, with Devolver Digital handling publishing duties. While the project is still in early development, its announcement marks the return of the series’ numbered mainline adventures, with further details and a release date yet to be revealed.
