Bandai Namco has pulled back the curtain on more of what players can expect from Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, with a new trailer putting the spotlight on one of the series’ biggest draws: creating a fighter of your own. The latest look at the long-awaited action RPG also introduces a brand-new playable race, giving fans another way to shape their custom hero before heading into battle.

Set in the unexplored era of AGE 1000, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is expanding the series’ character creation systems while building an entirely new setting for its story. Rather than simply stepping into the role of an established Dragon Ball character, players will once again have the opportunity to create their own warrior and determine how that character fits into the wider world.

The new “Fight Your Own Way” trailer reveals that six races will be available during character creation: Earthling, Saiyan, Namekian, Frieza Race, Majin, and the newly introduced Android race. The addition of Androids gives players another distinctive option when designing their fighter and suggests that Bandai Namco is looking to give character creation an even greater role in the sequel.

Race is only one part of the customization system. Players will be able to alter their character’s appearance, inherit techniques from powerful Super Fighters, and build a combat style around the movement and abilities of 130 different heroes. That should give players considerable freedom when deciding exactly how their custom fighter looks, moves, and battles.

The emphasis on customization also ties directly into the game’s central premise. Rather than following a predetermined hero, players are encouraged to create a character that feels like their own and then take that fighter through a new Dragon Ball adventure. The choices made during character creation will help define the journey ahead as players develop their warrior and take on whatever threats emerge in this unexplored era.

The sequel is also introducing a new setting in the form of West City. The familiar location has been reimagined as a vibrant hub where players will encounter new characters and become involved in an original storyline. Players will eventually join the Great Saiya Squad and fight alongside allies as mysterious events begin unfolding around them.

While Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is still keeping many of its story details under wraps, its AGE 1000 setting gives the developers plenty of room to explore a part of the Dragon Ball universe that has not previously been the focus of the series. The game is being positioned as a new chapter rather than simply another trip through familiar events, with an original world, new characters, and a future that players will have to uncover for themselves.

The latest trailer also reinforces how important the established Dragon Ball cast will remain despite the focus on custom characters. With 130 Super Fighters contributing their movement and abilities to the character-building system, players should have plenty of opportunities to experiment with different approaches to combat and create a fighter that suits their preferred playstyle.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Bandai Namco says additional details will be revealed in the months ahead, meaning there should be plenty more information on the game’s characters, story, combat systems, and new features still to come.

For now, the introduction of the Android race and the expanded focus on player-created fighters provide a clearer picture of how Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is looking to evolve the formula. After years of waiting for the next mainline entry, fans finally have a new look at the custom fighter experience that will sit at the heart of the upcoming adventure.
