Messhof, the studio behind Nidhogg and Wheel World, has announced that its action roguelike Blood Dungeon is now available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and the Windows Store. The game is also available through Game Pass.
Blood Dungeon is launching at $9.99, with a 15% launch discount available for a limited time. The self-published title marks a return to Messhof’s roots with a frenetic, movement-focused experience built around fast-paced action, platforming, and survival.
Players take control of a variety of characters as they run, jump, climb, and fight their way through dangerous dungeons filled with monsters. Movement plays a major role in surviving each encounter, with players able to scramble across ladders, grates, chains, walls, ceilings, and even underwater areas as they attempt to avoid the creatures surrounding them.
The dungeons are home to more than 100 different enemy types, including bats, centaurs, exploding eyeballs, and other unusual creatures. Enemies behave differently depending on their type, with some able to fly through walls while others can walk, stick, or bounce across different surfaces. Learning their movements and finding the best way to deal with them is an important part of each run.
Defeating enemies allows players to harvest their blood and increase their blood level, which can then be used to improve their build. Players can also discover hidden chests throughout the arenas containing additional rewards, while the Dogmancer provides access to permanent upgrades in exchange for the required bone toll.
Blood Dungeon also features nine unlockable playable characters, each offering their own weapons, abilities, and movement perks. Players can experiment with characters such as Leggy, who can spin climbable webs, Bug, who can take flight, and Skinja, who can move through the dungeons at high speed.
There are six unique survival arenas to unlock, along with more than 100 quests and over 100 weapons and upgrades. The combination of different characters, enemies, weapons, upgrades, and arenas gives players plenty of room to experiment with different builds and approaches to each run.
The game’s fast-paced action is accompanied by a dynamic “dungeon dnb” soundtrack from composer Thomas Hooey, complementing the gritty pixel-art presentation and frenetic gameplay.
