One of the most well regarded 16 bit RPGs is Terranigma, a Quintent title published by Enix for the SNES from 1995. Terranigma was made by a team that includes Tomoyoshi Miyazaki (director, designer and writer), Kamui Fujiwara (artist) and Reiko Takebayashi (writer), and is the third title in a thematic trilogy ( but otherwise standlone) that also includes Soul Blazer and Illusion of Time. The game only released in Europe and Japan, with no North American version, which has only increased its legend.
Now Clear River Games appears to be teasing a re-release of the legendary game, as in a new teaser for the upcoming Pixel Arcadia showcase at Gamescom on August 24th, a voice is heard saying:
“Wake up! All the living things in this world await your awakening.”
A quote that fits the theme of resurrection that ran throughout the trilogy. It also needs to be noted that at the bottom of the screen is a copyright notice which reads:
“Square Enix / Quintet / Kamui Fujiwara”
Kamui Fujiwara created the game’s characters, and previously said he would love to see the game return in some form, notably telling Nintendo Life back in 2021 that he wanted to remake the game.
“I think that with today’s technology, [Ark’s] hair could be represented with its original blue colour, and I would like to do that. Blue is a symbol, it’s the colour of the Earth incarnation.”
