Clear River Games, a video game publisher specialising in classic and retro games, in partnership with developers City Connection, today announced a new update to RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers , introducing a whole new way to play. Give a friend a bareknuckle beatdown in the brand-new VS Mode.

A return of the classic Jaleco series (Rushing Beat / Rival Turf! and its sequel Rushing Beat Ran / Brawl Brothers) RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers offers action-packed, side scrolling brawler fun for any beat ‘em up fan, be they veterans or newcomers to the genre.

Tasked with ridding the neon-soaked streets of Neo Cisco from the nefarious Zeekus virus, players can team up or go it alone to fight their way to victory. But the action needn’t stop when the day is won. Players can compete with one another via local PVP to see who the true hero is in the brand new VS Mode, introduced via an update to the game today.

Six stages await rival competitors as they choose from a lineup of all seven playable characters from the RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers Story Mode. Both players back the best brawler? Not a problem. Same character selection is possible as the player who chooses second will play with a colour variation of the character.

RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers VS Mode isn’t only about character selection, however; the various stages help or hinder different playing styles in this classic beat ‘em up title. Adding to the replayable action of Story Mode, VS Mode offers players training grounds to adapt their playstyle and become the ultimate brawler, if their opponents give them the chance.

Here are the six stages to master:

  • Boss Rush Ring: When the only damage dealt is from the other player, Boss Rush Ring strips back to zero environmental damage. A good honest brawl for those who like to fight fair!
  • Back Alley: Offering combat in close quarters, Back Alley is full of vehicles and burn barrels to keep the action tight and players on their toes. Hazards aplenty for an explosive fight!
  • Subway Tunnel: Mind the gap, the train will not be stopping and you don’t want to be on it. But with electrical hazards lining Subway Tunnel, players will need to watch their step as they dodge the approaching train and their opponent.
  • High Security Jail: Extremely dangerous criminals, what could go wrong? High Security Jail offers high stakes beat ‘em up action with eruptive potential. Be careful not to trigger the turrets during the fight, you might get caught in the crossfire!
  • Sewers: Brawlers aren’t the only danger in Sewers – it’s drenched in the Zeekus virus! Perforated metal floors allow jets of Zeekus to burst through so focus on the fight but don’t get sprayed.
  • Boss Rush Ring (Hazardous): The Boss Rush Ring players will recognise, only this time it’s with electrified ropes. Stay inside the ring and all will be fine, until your opponent has other ideas that is.

RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers is available via digital download on PlayStation® 5, Nintendo® Switch™ 2, Xbox and PC.

RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers is available across the EU physically with physical versions for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
