KRAFTON and developer 5minlab are taking players into a world of supernatural threats with WPCA: World Phasebound Control Authority, a new cooperative action game announced for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
The game puts players in the role of a Containment Agent working for the Seoul Branch of the World Phasebound Control Authority, an organization tasked with protecting humanity from bizarre creatures known as “Phasebounds.” These monstrous anomalies exist beyond conventional understanding, turning each trip into a containment zone into a fight for survival.
Rather than focusing on a traditional adventure built around exploration and a lengthy narrative campaign, WPCA appears to be putting its emphasis on fast-paced combat and repeatable boss encounters. Players will be sent into dangerous areas to hunt down Phasebounds, with the game’s combat designed around taking down increasingly formidable supernatural enemies.
5minlab is also aiming for a more fluid approach to action than the slower, heavier combat often associated with games built around large-scale monster encounters. Attacks are intended to feel quick and impactful, allowing players to exploit enemy weaknesses and capitalize on openings during battles.
That includes mechanics designed to let players strike vulnerable points on enemies, while some abilities can be used to manipulate the battlefield itself. According to KRAFTON, players can even pull enormous creatures toward a chosen location, opening up opportunities to control encounters and deal significant damage.
The game’s progression system will give players plenty of room to experiment with their preferred playstyle. Defeated Phasebounds will leave behind materials that can be used to create more powerful weapons and equipment, giving players a reason to continue hunting increasingly dangerous targets.
Character builds can be further customized through a combination of weapons, skills, passive abilities, gear and randomly generated stat options. The goal is to allow players to put together increasingly specialized setups rather than simply following a predetermined progression path.
That build-focused approach could become particularly important when tackling WPCA’s larger encounters. With the game described as an “overwhelming boss rush,” players will need to consider how their equipment and abilities work together when facing the game’s unpredictable anomalies.
WPCA will also support both solo play and three-player cooperative hunting. Players won’t be locked into traditional class roles, with 5minlab instead putting the focus on individual performance and letting players contribute to battles through their own customized builds.
The game is also designed to allow players to move between solo and cooperative hunting, giving them the flexibility to tackle threats alone or bring other players into the fight. This could make experimentation with different builds particularly useful, as players will be able to approach the game’s encounters in different ways depending on how they choose to play.
While the Seoul setting and the strange nature of the Phasebounds suggest that WPCA will lean heavily into supernatural and paranormal themes, the game’s emphasis appears to be firmly placed on combat. The combination of monstrous bosses, fast-paced attacks, gear crafting and build customization gives it a structure that could appeal to players looking for a more action-focused cooperative hunting experience.
KRAFTON and 5minlab have confirmed WPCA: World Phasebound Control Authority for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, although a release date has not yet been announced. More details about the game’s Phasebounds, progression systems and cooperative features will likely be revealed as development continues.
